Jeonju University’s Attendance/Absence

Recognition Rules

Below is listed what absences can be officially approved and what documents and deadlines are required during the semester period.

1. General attendance rule:

Attendance must be recorded so the university can check it in real time and at any time.

Professors cannot arbitrarily excuse an absence except for reasons officially recognized under the university's academic regulations.

If a student misses more than 1/4 of the total class hours, the student's grade must be processed as FA (Fail due to absence).

If someone attends using an improper method, such as having another student check attendance for them, the university can:

deduct/deny the grade, including an FA, and take disciplinary action under the student disciplinary regulations.

Important: Simply telling a professor that you have a reason for missing class does not automatically make the absence excused.

2. Officially recognized absences

The tables show the situations in which you can request 출석인정 (official attendance recognition).

  • Work after graduation / employment

If a student who is expected to graduate in the final semester gets:

a job, including an employment-linked internship, or

Deadline: Submit within 2 weeks from the employment date.

Documents:

Certificate of employment (재직증명서)

No documents required according to this table.

However, it cannot be requested during exam periods, and it cannot be applied for if more than 20 days have passed since the transfer/application date noted in the table.

Family relationship certificate

If a family relationship certificate cannot be provided, the table says the documentation requirement may be waived.

⭐ Most important thing to understand

출석인정 (Attendance Recognition) means the university officially treats an otherwise missed class as an approved absence.

It is not the same as simply being absent with the professor's permission.

You generally need to:

1. Have a qualifying reason → 2. Apply within the specified deadline → 3. Submit the required evidence → 4. Have the absence officially approved.

And the 1/4 rule is very important: if your absences exceed 25% of the total class hours, your grade can be recorded as FA, regardless of the normal attendance process.
